Changing Times: 24-Year-Old UGA Graduate, Colton Moore, Challenges Georgia Republican Leadership

Key Takeaways
  • Colton Moore is running for Georgia State House - District I seat.
  • Will tirelessly pursue traditional Georgia conservative Republican policies that encompass reduced regulations and protecting consumers’ rights.
  • Georgia risks being left behind in favor of other states for future economic growth opportunities if changes are not made now.

TRENTON, Ga. and ATLANTA, March 23, 2018 (Reportable) -- Colton Moore (https://ColtonMoore.com), the 24-year-old Republican candidate for Georgia State House District 1, is shaking things up for the Republican Party as one of the youngest candidates to run in recent times. Moore has his sights set on unseating incumbent, State Rep. John Deffenbaugh, in the Republican Primary for the District 1 Seat.

Critics are concerned about his age, but Moore says he's concerned with the direction of the current Georgia Republican leadership. Moore is distraught that Georgia’s economic future may be impacted by a new law that would eliminate Delta’s $40-million state tax break due to the airline removing a discount previously offered to NRA members.

Moore is disappointed by the elimination of the NRA discount. But as a Lifetime NRA member and a Delta Diamond frequent flyer himself, Moore agrees: “It’s the consumer’s job to punish the state’s largest private employer; not the government’s.”

At the forefront of Moore’s campaign is a return to traditional Georgia conservative Republican politics that encompass things like getting rid of regulations and protecting consumers’ rights.

Moore is worried that Georgia risks being left behind in favor of other states for future economic growth opportunities if changes are not made now.

“If our State legislators continue to intermix business and politics, we’ll miss out on opportunities like Amazon’s HQ2, which would bring as many as 50,000 new jobs and billions in economic development,” he says.

Colton strongly believes it will take more leaders like him to move things along faster than the current legislators. He’s received an invitation to meet Deffenbaugh at the State Capitol March 28-29, where both candidates plan to discuss the best path forward for the district and the state.

"To be a loud voice in Dade and Walker county, we need someone who can take a fast pace and fight in the legislature,” Moore concludes.
